(February 2, 1927 – October 25, 2025)
The residents and staff of Port Credit Residences are deeply saddened by the passing of Betty Dennis, who died peacefully on October 25, 2025, at the age of 98. Betty was a beloved member of our community, having called Port Credit Residences home for the last ten years.
Betty was born on February 2, 1927, in London, England, the daughter of Nellie and Charlie White. She grew up with an older sister, Marie. On July 3, 1951, she married her childhood sweetheart, Dr. Leslie Dennis, a family physician. After starting a family in Weybridge, England, Leslie and Betty immigrated to Canada in October 1964 with their two sons, Mark and Paul. They eventually settled in Clarkson.
Betty was truly the life of the party—a bubbly, lively, and fun-loving spirit who balanced Leslie's more introverted nature. She possessed a special gift for connecting with people, and even those she had recently met felt as though they had known her for years. She was a woman of great optimism and remarkable resilience, famously beating breast cancer in her late 40s and again in her early 90s.
She and Leslie shared an active social life and enjoyed taking up golf together, where Betty was known for her consistent, though not long, drives. Ever stylish, Betty was always conscious of her appearance, paying particular attention to her hair and makeup throughout her life. In her 20’s she worked in an internationally renowned hair salon where she won international competitions.
Betty moved to Port Credit Residences in November 2015, shortly before Leslie's death in December of the same year. Here, she quickly established many close friendships, most notably with Maria, with whom she was inseparable for ten years. In her final years, she was lovingly supported by a number of talented Personal Support Workers, including Helen, Charity, Christiana, Felicia, and Lisa. She established close personal relationships with all of them. For the past 15 months Felicia and Lisa provided around the clock friendship and care to Betty so that she could maintain a high quality of life.
Betty made the world a happier place, and her optimistic spirit will be profoundly missed by her family, her close friend Maria, and all who knew her.
